Peggy McCarthy-Hughes, Lead Educational Support Specialist, has been at Minnieland for 14 years and has been in early childhood education for 24 years. Peggy holds a B.S. from Mary Washington College, and has completed graduate studies in Occupational & Technical Education at Old Dominion University.
Peggy’s responsibilities at Minnieland involve development and implementation of teacher training. She coordinates the work of the regional educational specialists. She also oversees the Junior Kindergarten, PREP (Preschool Readiness Enhanced Program), Curriculum Advocate, and Mentor Programs for the company. Peggy serves as liaison for George Mason University ASSESER and other research projects. Minnieland participates with the psychology department at the University in conducting cutting edge research in the field of child development. Peggy has also assisted with transitioning degreed teachers recruited from around the world to work at Minnieland through The Teacher’s Council.
She holds a Certification with the University of Virginia as a CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) trainer. She also holds the National Administrators Credential (NAC). In addition, Peggy is a Rater, Trainer & Mentor for Virginia’s Star Quality Rating System, trainer for ECERS, ITERS, & SACERS instruments and a presenter at local and state conferences.
