Summer Camp Activities - Minnieland Academy at Montclair

Week of June 20-24:  Summer Camp Kick Off

During the first week of camp, our campers will start off their summer with a week-long celebration and preview of the fun and exciting events our summer camp program has to offer.  Campers will enjoy Special Splash Days, Naming Camp Teams, Working on Team Banners, Creating Team Chants.  The week will culminate with our annual Summer Camp Family Cookout.

Week of June 27- July 1:  Blazin’ Fires

Campers will thrive this summer by learning camping skills and manners along with learning the importance of fire safety.  Sitting around a virtual campfire, getting to know each other, will be the start to an awesome summer! Some of the activities campers will participate in this week are International Mud Day, an Intramural Camp Kick-off Field Day, and our school’s annual Independence Day Parade.  Campers will also learn to make healthy treats without needing access to conventional ovens or microwaves and play Camping Bingo.  Blazin’ Fires week will be full of fun activities and learning!

Week of July 4 – July 8:   Goin’ Green

Campers will explore the three green R’s:  Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. From creating artwork with reusable materials to becoming advocates for change, campers will learn the value of self-respect and respect for others all while learning the value of protecting our Earth! To inspire campers to become advocates for change, campers will learn about the water cycle, design and construct things with recycled materials (like colorful water bottle spirals) and do some gardening in reused containers.  We will also explore electricity this week in our Senior Camp to include building circuits and working with tools that will have them charged up for more!

Week of July 11 - July 15:  Back to Our Roots

Campers will delve into family heritage and local history as well as hone their gardening skills.  This week, campers will be inspired to make nutritional culinary creations with items from the garden as well as sharing family favorites.   A field trip to Signal Bay Water Park, a Medieval Intramural Event, publishing a school cookbook, a geocaching adventure, and creating Keepsake Stones for garden or home decoration are all activities that will have campers looking forward to camp.

Week of July 18- July 22:  Camp Champs

Campers will not only participate in sports and games but also value the importance of becoming champions of our community through outreach and stewardship.  Activities will focus on good sportsmanship, cooperation, physical fitness, and teamwork.  Some of the activities campers will participate in this week are a Lemonade Stand to benefit a local charity chosen by the children, Team Jersey Day, Creating their own Board Games, Obstacle Course Challenges, and an introduction to many different sports to include a session with a Soccer Coach.  We will also participate in Trivia Quest – teamwork and out of the box thinking will be required to be successful!

Week of July 25- July 29:  Buggin’ Out

This week our campers will creep and crawl through an intensive study of all things bugs!  This week campers will compete in a buggy challenge using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) as well as go on a Field Trip to see the Potomac Nationals play a game of baseball.  A Raging Reptile show with live animals, a bug scavenger hunt, and learning about rare bugs from around the world are some ways your camper will be “Buggin’ Out”.

Week of August 1 – August 5: Gigantic Antics

Campers will go BIG this week as everything this week will be elevated to the extreme: large things and extreme fun!  During our gigantic antics week, campers will construct Giant Structures as a team and engage in some Massively Messy Art.  Senior Campers will enjoy archery, canoeing, and team building games on our annual Camp High Roads trip.  Playing Giant Games such as Giant Bowling, Giant Dominoes, and Giant Jenga are all fun ways all campers will have great BIG fun!

Week of August 8 – August 12:  Shoot for the Stars

Campers will try to reach their full potential, while exploring Aviation, Outer Space, and Astronomy.  Campers will enjoy a trip to the Air & Space Museum, make star viewers to learn about constellations,  and using Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to develop aircraft.  Your camper will also learn about goal setting and reaching their goals!

Week of August 15 – August 19: Summer Showcase

Campers will showcase their talents and reflect back on the exciting things they did this summer.  Along with showcasing their talents, campers will also enjoy talent show workshops with a professional dance coach to assist with singing, dancing, writing, designing, and building sets to perform as they take the stage for Minnieland Idol (our annual Talent Show).  If your camper is more into scrapbooking and crafts, they can participate in the development of the 2016 Camp YZ Summer Memory Book with pictures and activities taken throughout the Summer!

Week of August 22 – August 26 – Back to School Review

During this week, we will work with our campers in getting them ready for the new school year.  Campers will also enjoy some outdoor fun!
