JOIN US THIS SUMMER!
June 13 – 17
Campers will have Fun in the Sun as we kick off our Summer Camp 2016. We will have a game of “Splash Volley Ball” and create 8 foot bubbles in a kiddie pool. Sprinkler play begins on our soccer field and the children are making soapy seafoam for fun sensory play in the classroom. Our special cooking project for the week is Orange Julius and we will get creative with sun scapes. We will round out the week with the bounce house on the playground.
June 20 – 24
Our older campers go to the pool and our pre k children take their first field trip of the summer to PUMP IT UP. School age campers are visiting the Llama Farm in Toms Brook as well as a trip to the library to check out books on sea life.
June 27 – July 1
Sand Castles and sea shells is the theme of the week. We will be making castles using card board boxes and younger children will make sand paintings and seashell crafts. Our bus will take us to the JMU planetarium and to Eli’s Fun Center for acrobatic fun. Of course sprinklers and our weekly trip to the pool are always a hit. Friday is the much anticipated International MUD DAY!
July 4 – 8
It’s Shark Week and we will have a Shark Head Photo Booth for picture taking fun. We will be painting shark eyes on ice and making cheesy shark fins for snack. We are visiting the Route 11 Potato Chip factory in Mt Jackson and then off to the park for a picnic.
July 11 – 15
Light and Flight is our theme for the week. Children will learn some history of light houses and explore all the many styles, colors and designs that light up the coasts. The children will get creative as they design their own light house using a variety of materials in including terra cotta pots, tin cans and solo cups. We have 2 new field trips for the week including Riven Rock Park and Cedar Spokes Farm where we will gather eggs, play with the goats, bunnies and miniature horses and even explore the woods.
July 18 – 22
Sea Monsters Myths and Mermaids is the theme this week. We are very excited about octopus, seahorse, mermaid and jelly fish crafts this week. We will hear legends of the sea and watch a short movie called Oceans Alive. We have a special visit on Friday from the local fire department who will bring in a fire truck for the children to “explore” and then they will enjoy snow cones on the playground.
July 25 – 29
We learn of The Seven Seas and make our own boats from card board, styrofoam and corks. Preschoolers will visit Ken- etic Kids and school agers are going to skate town. We will be making small oceans of jello and will have sensory play that explores the “Rocky Reef”
August 1 – 5
Our theme for the week is Gems under the Sea. We will be growing sea weed and going coconut bowling on the playground. Our school agers are visiting the Big Yellow Barn and Shenandoah Caverns and our pre-k students will be taking their field trip to the JMU Arboretum.
August 8 -12
Commotion in the Ocean is the theme for this week. We will learn responsible ways to care for our environment, rivers and streams that in all affect our oceans and the ocean life we’ve learned about over the summer. Our favorite story teller Sandy Parks will be here to engage us in ways only she can do and our school agers are visiting Showalter’s Orchard to collect early apples for baking apple pies.
August 15 – 19
Our last week of the summer is Pirate Week. We will put a message in a bottle for someone special, we will dig for treasure and make pirate hooks. Our end of the summer blast will be a pirate party on Friday and our bravest will walk the plank.
