Summer Camp Activities - Minnieland at Gunston




During the first week of camp, campers will begin their week with a day celebration and preview of the fun and exciting events our summer camp program has to offer. Campers will spend the rest of the week focused on Scientific Eruptions. Campers will learn about and experiment with different types of scientific eruptions.   From learning about volcanoes to chemical reactions, campers will have the opportunity to work together as a team on activities they create that will produce “scientific eruptions”! 

CONSTRUCTION ZONE:   July 3, 2017 – July 7, 2017  

This week, our campers will explore the process of constructing a building or an infrastructure.  They will learn various aspects of architecture and possibly visit some local examples.  Campers will create various structures using all types of materials.

MAKING WAVES:  July 10, 2017 - July 14, 2017 

The exciting Making Waves week will consist of campers discovering all things water! Campers will learn all about lakes, oceans and rivers and their importance on this magnificent Earth.  Campers will also learn about the various animals that live in water, how water moves and how we can keep our waterways clean!  There will also be lots of fun water play activities for our campers to enjoy!

OUTER LIMITS:  July 17, 2017 - July 21, 2017

Campers will be taken to the outer limits during this awesome week by learning all about space, the planets and space travel. Whether campers find themselves visiting space-themed museums or planetariums or creating a solar system model, this weeks’ activities will take campers on experiences that are out of this world!

STORM CHASERS:  July 24, 2017 - July 28, 2017

During our Storm Chasers week, campers will explore and learn about the science of Meteorology. They will learn about the atmosphere and how atmospheric pressure affects our weather.  They will even look into making their own production of a weather forecast!

MINERAL MAGIC:  July 31, 2017 – August 4, 2017 

Minerals of the earth are so fascinating!  We will rock out while discovering how plate tectonics work, how sediment creates rocks, and even delve into the world of fossils. There will be many opportunities to explore, recognize and experience some mineral magic!

HABITATS ALIVE:  August 7, 2017 – August 11, 2017

The earth’s creatures have a wide variety of habitats to live in.  Children will be able to learn about, research and experience all of the different habitats on this wonderful Earth in ways they haven’t before!

ROAD TRIPPING:  August 14, 2017 – August 18, 2017

Campers will be going on a virtual road trip this week and we’ll learn how to use road maps and decide on transportation!  Who knows?  Perhaps we’ll take a real road trip to a planned destination!

BACK TO SCHOOL REVIEW:  August 21, 2017 – August 25, 2017

During this week, we will work with our campers to get them ready for the transition into another successful school year! Campers will also enjoy some outdoor fun!
