AdvancED Grants Accreditation to 14 Minnieland Academy Schools

Several locations in the Minnieland Academy family of schools have been granted accreditation status with AdvancED, the world’s largest accrediting and school improvement organization. AdvancED Standards are designed to specifically support early childhood education best practices and continuous improvement but also align with AdvancED’s overall accreditation process. Recently accredited schools include Minnielands at Ashland, Belmont, Centreville Square, Dominion Valley, Dulles, Kirkpatrick Farms, South Riding, The Glen and Woodlake. Also achieving accreditation status were the Merit Schools of Stafford and Prince William, Merit School of Old Town Manassas, Merit School of Manassas.

Dr. Zach Mural, Vice President of Education, said, “It has truly been a honor and privilege to work collaboratively with the AdvancED staff and onsite reviewers on this effort to support our school’s pursuit of embodying excellence in early childhood education.”

The AdvancED Standards, which are the highest-level accreditation institutions can achieve within the early learning arena, highlight best practices for early childhood education of young children. They include:

  •     Use of developmentally appropriate practices
  •     Focus on learning, growth and development
  •     Focus on cognitive, emotional, social, creative and physical growth and development
  •     Relationships between young children, staff and parents
  •     Preservation of the child’s dignity in care routines
  •     Health and safety in facilities, space and activities
  •     Respect for self and others

Minnieland Academy Education Specialist, Myra Sawyers remarked, “The Accreditation process was an exciting opportunity for our schools to celebrate their achievements as well as take advantage of opportunities to improve. It was a pleasure working closely with AdvancED and witnessing their deep commitment and dedication and the collaborative spirit they embraced with us through this process. Their hard work was especially evident during each visit; everyone participated in the process and  demonstrated a growing knowledge, confidence and understanding of their programs and schools. I am excited to continue working together with each school as we move forward to continue improving and growing in our commitment to caring for children and supporting them in their development.”
